The Great American Read series explores and celebrates the diversity of thought, perspective and experiences of America through the lens of our most treasured literary classics and contemporary titles.
Television personality and journalist Meredith Vieira hosts the series. "The power of reading is extraordinary — it allows us to escape to new worlds, introduces us to a diverse range of people, opens our minds to different ideas, and allows us to keep learning no matter our age or background," says Vieira.
One hundred books were selected by the American public, chosen from a demographically representative national survey and an advisory panel of literary professionals. Download the book checklist here.
Beginning with the two-hour kick-off in May, the eight-part series will feature appearances by notable figures from the entertainment, sports, news and literary worlds and everyday Americans passionately advocating for and explaining their personal connections to their favorite books.
As summer turns to fall, voting will close and America's top 10 books will be revealed, counting down to America's best-loved in the final episode of the series. We can't wait to see what you choose!
