Educating the Next Generation

This session focuses on two exciting initiatives that will be in the forefront of properly educating the planet’s next generation of inhabitants. The Healing Earth Project is a free, online environmental science textbook for upper level secondary school students, beginning college students, and adult learners. Unlike any other environmental textbooks, Healing Earth presents an integrated, global, and living approach to the ecological challenges we face. The project’s authors incorporate scientific knowledge with ethical analysis, spiritual reflection, and a call for action. The session also features the Green Hope Foundation, which provides a networking platform for children and youth to carry forth the Rio legacy through the establishment of environmental workshops and ground-level projects. Green Hope now has more than 1,000 members working in 10 countries.

About the Climate Summit

The Saint Louis Climate Summit was dedicated to working to fulfill Pope Francis’ call to unite in defense of our common home. Saint Louis University proudly hosted the summit as part of its bicentennial anniversary celebration and honored Pope Francis’ call to unite leaders in defense of the health and well-being of the planet. As one of the most respected Jesuit educational institutions in the world, celebrating its 200-year anniversary in 2018 under the Catholic Church’s first-ever Jesuit Pope, there is perhaps no other institution as appropriate to convene a summit aimed at tackling the challenges outlined in Pope Francis’ 2014 Encyclical. Nine Network served as SLU’s media partner, providing event and marketing management.
