St. Louis, MO — March 11, 2019 — The Saint Louis University Department of Athletics inducted Jack Galmiche, president and CEO, Nine Network, into the 2019 Billiken Hall of Fame with the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Bob Burnes Award as a member of the 1967 men’s soccer team.

Galmiche was a member of the Billikens' NCAA Championship men’s soccer teams in 1967 and 1969. The Distinguished Alumni Award is given to student athletes who have made major contributions to the university athletic program through personal time, effort and interest and through many years of service, and have distinguished themselves as exceptional in their chosen field or endeavor.

Galmiche was the executive producer of the 2009 Nine Special, A Time for Champions, a production close to his heart. It relives the Saint Louis University soccer dynasty, which won their first National Championship in 1959 and would win 10 more over the next 15 years. The special can be viewed at video.nineNet.org.

“Being a member of the 1967 and 1969 championship teams was an experience for the ages. The pride of representing St. Louis University and the city of St. Louis has shaped my professional life. I am proud to be a lifelong Billiken, a native son of St. Louis, and committed to a career of public service to improve the lives of the people in our region,” says Galmiche.

Nine is among the most watched public television stations in the PBS system, with one of the most highly rated audiences for full-day viewing. Since his arrival at Nine in 2006, Galmiche has focused the station's efforts around new forms of community engagement, which have become a national model for public media, and expanded the reach of the station's programming and content through four local channels in the St. Louis market as well as new digital productions. He presided over the design and installation of the Public Media Commons, an open-air media plaza situated between the Nine Network and St. Louis Public Radio in Grand Center.

He was recently awarded America's Public Television Stations’ Pillar of Public Service Award for the station's civic leadership in bringing the community together around finding solutions to important issues like the mortgage crisis, high school graduation rates and employment after high school, and engaging teachers and families in science and literacy programs to positively impact school readiness.

Galmiche actively serves the St. Louis community as a board member of Webster University, Public Television Association of Missouri, Grand Center Inc., and the St. Louis Regional Chamber. Before joining the Nine Network, Jack was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), where he managed the operations of a statewide network of public television and radio stations.
